Tyler, a British Ex-Schoolboy Cricketer has accidentally become one of Malaysia’s
popular celebrities after learning the wrong language during a backpacking
journey to Asia.

Known
by hoards of Malaysians fans as Mat Dan, Tyler started his life in Cheltenham,
Gloucestershire, but currently stays 6,000 miles away in Kuala Lumper.

Aged 29, Tyler is hosting his personal prime
time travel show and also planning to launch a new clothing line. When he was
young, he was a keen cricketer but by middle age, sport in Tyler’s life took a
setback after discovering parties and music.


He eventually dropped out of college in favor of working in a cloth shop and at age 19, Tyler saved enough to go for a backpacking trip in South East Asia with friends.

Appreciating the culture he witnessed, Tyler decided to return alone a few months later and decided to settle down on the tiny island of Pulau Kapas on Malaysia’s east coast where he occupied himself among the locals.

Over time, Tyler started picking up their
language which he believed was Malay – the official language of the nation.
Nevertheless, when he made a trip to the Malaysian Capital, Kuala Lumpar – some
individuals were struggling to understand Tyler, only to discover he has been
learning a local dialect called Terengganu.

He was approached by TV crews who wondered if he wanted to go in front of the camera

Returning to the island, rumors started spreading about an Englishman who could speak in one of the most unclear dialects

Since fame found him, Dan met with his wife Nurnadifa who has a year old son


Years back, a video of Tyler speaking in Terengganese was shared on YouTube and did go viral. Since fame found him, Dan met with his wife Nurnadifa who has a year old son. He equally converted to Islam and now goes by the name Kareef Daniel Abdullah.

His parents Nicola and Kevin Tyler often fly out to see their son and his new family in Malaysia

Dan is due to return to the UK later this year to attend a World Travel Market event in London


Currently, Tyler has a new clothing line in the pipeline and is also about to feature in his first lengthy film.
